So far, we've only met a few characters...
Addie Sheppard


 Girl/Callow Youth
Addie is a more or less normal girl. She's timid and spooks easly. She was on her winter holidays before being pulled unexpectedly into a world of witches and magic, part of which, at least, is still in her own world.
Barty


 Cat
Barty was previously Addie's family's pet, but has followed her into the Witch's house. He seems to have had something to do with the Witch before Addie met her, but he has not yet said what. The power of speech is relatively new to him.
Lucy Cardiff


 Witch/Old Woman/Mystery
She once lived, apparently by herself, in an old house on an old street, in an old and quiet part of town. Nobody knows (yet) who she is or what she does.

Melissa is one of Addie's friends from school. It seems that she has been involved in stranger things than Addie has, and for longer.

Gwen is Melissa's older sister.

 Cousin/Voice of reason
Medical student a local university. His father is Gwen's and Melissa's father's brother.
Christopher


 Apprentice/Boy/Magician
Helpful, but kind of careless. Essentially a nice guy, despite the angry face in this picture.
Searl


 Patriarch/Schemer
Gwen and Melissa's father. Who knows what he's got up his sleeve?
Naianth


 Mother/Voice of reason
Gwen and Melissa's mother, and Searl's wife. She makes killer fried eggs.
Miria


 Leader
The head of the Gateway. She keeps everything organized.
